A Minecraft Movie Squared Officially Revealed Following Massive Box Office Success

The blocky adventure isn’t over yet.

Warner Bros. and Legendary have officially revealed the title of the highly anticipated sequel to 2025’s surprise blockbuster, confirming that the follow-up will be called A Minecraft Movie Squared. The announcement was made during Minecraft Live, giving fans their first official look at the next chapter in the rapidly growing franchise.

The sequel announcement comes as little surprise after the original film became one of the biggest box office successes of 2025. Made on a reported budget of around $150 million, A Minecraft Movie went on to earn nearly $960 million worldwide, turning the video game adaptation into a global phenomenon.

Directed by Jared Hess, the first film starred Jack Black as Steve alongside Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the movie found enormous success with audiences, particularly younger viewers who turned screenings into viral social media events.

Production on A Minecraft Movie Squared is already underway in New Zealand, with Black and Momoa expected to return. Reports also indicate that Kirsten Dunst has joined the cast as Alex, one of Minecraft’s most recognizable characters from the games.

While plot details remain hidden deep in the mines, director Jared Hess has previously hinted that there are still countless biomes, mobs, and fan favorite elements from the game that have yet to make their way to the big screen. Many fans are already speculating that the sequel could finally explore The End dimension and introduce the iconic Ender Dragon.

A Minecraft Movie Squared is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 23, 2027, giving fans just over a year to prepare for another trip into the Overworld.
