Was Rue Reincarnated as a Cow on the Euphoria Finale?

In the Euphoria series finale, Rue dies after taking a painkiller that was laced with fentanyl. While dying, she dreams of going to see Fez, who has escaped from prison. At Fez’s bodega, she gazes at the sign that says “Milk”.

Later, Ali visits the homestead Rue told him she wanted to return to. When Rue arrived there, she was offered fresh milk from one of the cows. When Ali arrives, he is told one of the cows had a calf three months ago, about the same time Rue died.

Some fans believe this means that Rue was reincarnated as a cow.

However, I believe the symbolism of the cow is that the homestead is the promised land. Remember, Rue believes she was Moses in the Exodus story from the Bible. God spoke to Rue through the burning Joshua tree like he spoke to Moses through a burning bush. In the Exodus story, God promises to lead Moses and the Israelites to “the land of milk and honey.”

Rue is offered a cup of milk when she arrives to the homestead on Euphoria.

Rue being offered milk when she arrives to the homestead is significant because it symbolizes that the homestead is the promised land for Rue. When Rue dies, she sees the Milk sign at Fez’s bodega and realizes he is a part of her promised land. She has arrived to the land of milk and honey by dying and going to a better place. Although Fez is still alive in the world of Euphoria, he is with Rue in her afterlife.

The birth of the calf at the homestead symbolizes new life, new beginnings, hope for Ali and the rich agricultural status of the homestead. While Rue’s promised land ended up being the afterlife, perhaps for Ali the homestead is his promised land.
