Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Earns Glowing First Reactions Following London Premiere

Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey is already being hailed as one of the year’s biggest cinematic achievements after its world premiere in London, with early reactions describing the film as a visually breathtaking, emotionally powerful spectacle that could become another awards-season powerhouse for the acclaimed filmmaker.

Based on Homer’s legendary Greek poem, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus alongside an all-star cast that includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton, Jon Bernthal, and Elliot Page. The film marks Nolan’s first feature since the Oscar-winning success of Oppenheimer.

Not every conversation surrounding the film has been entirely about its filmmaking. In recent months, The Odyssey has sparked online debate over some of its casting choices and its use of contemporary American accents rather than the traditional British-style delivery often associated with historical epics. Even so, those discussions appear to have done little to dampen enthusiasm among critics, whose overwhelmingly positive first reactions suggest the film may be another major success for Nolan.
