GTA 6 Reportedly Generates 0 Million in Pre-Orders, Could Reach Billion During Launch Week

Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI is already setting records months before release, with a new report claiming the game has generated an estimated $260 million in global digital pre-orders during its opening week. Even more impressively, analysts believe GTA 6 could earn between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion by the end of its launch week if current trends continue.

The figures come from market analytics firm Newzoo, which tracked approximately $180 million in digital pre-order spending across the United States and the five largest European gaming markets during the first week pre-orders were available. Using Grand Theft Auto V‘s historical player distribution to estimate global demand, the firm projects worldwide pre-order spending reached roughly $260 million.

According to Newzoo, GTA 6 is following what it calls the “proven sequel” sales model, where a blockbuster franchise with an established fan base receives a massive wave of early purchases before launch. Based on historical sales patterns, the firm estimates the game could sell between 37 million and 51 million copies during its first week on sale, translating into launch-week revenue ranging from approximately $3.25 billion to $5.2 billion.

The report also pushes back against viral social media claims suggesting GTA 6 had already surpassed $1 billion in pre-orders months ahead of launch. Analysts say those rumors are inaccurate, noting that while the game’s opening pre-order performance is unprecedented, the vast majority of pre-order revenue is still expected to arrive closer to release.

If these projections prove accurate, Grand Theft Auto VI would shatter numerous entertainment industry records, surpassing the historic launch of Grand Theft Auto V, which famously generated $1 billion in just three days after its 2013 release.

With Rockstar Games preparing to launch GTA 6 on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, all signs point to what could become the biggest video game launch in history. While the exact sales figures remain estimates until release, one thing is already clear—player anticipation for Rockstar’s next open-world epic is unlike anything the industry has seen before.
