Avengers: Doomsday Smashes Advance Ticket Sales With Massive .5 Million Opening Day

Marvel Studios may have its biggest blockbuster in years on its hands. Avengers: Doomsday has generated an impressive $16.5 million in first-day advance ticket sales after tickets officially went on sale, setting a new post-pandemic benchmark for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and signaling enormous demand ahead of its December release.

According to Variety, the figure comes from sales at roughly 1,000 premium large-format theaters, making the performance even more impressive given that it doesn’t include every standard auditorium nationwide.

The early numbers are reportedly twice as high as the first-day presales for Deadpool & Wolverine, which went on to become one of Marvel’s biggest box office success stories, earning more than $1.3 billion worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film ever.

While Avengers: Doomsday hasn’t reached the historic presale heights of Spider-Man: No Way Home or Avengers: Endgame, industry reports indicate it now ranks among the largest post-COVID ticket presale launches ever, placing it in elite company alongside Marvel’s biggest modern releases.

The excitement isn’t limited to ticket sales. Marvel’s first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday generated 503 million views in its first 24 hours, making it the second-largest trailer launch in history, trailing only Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The film reunites the Russo Brothers behind the camera while bringing together heroes from across the Marvel multiverse, including the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wakandans, and classic X-Men, with Robert Downey Jr. making his highly anticipated return to the MCU as Doctor Doom.

Marvel will still face a major challenge this December when Avengers: Doomsday opens opposite Dune: Part Three in one of the year’s biggest box office showdowns. However, these record-breaking advance sales suggest audiences are already treating Doomsday as the next must-see Marvel event and perhaps the closest the studio has come to recapturing the excitement surrounding Infinity War and Endgame.
