Emma Roberts married Cody John on July 25 in Idaho, three weeks before her old “Scream 4” co-star Hayden Panettiere died at 36. The newlywed has been out in LA showing off her wedding ring while quietly mourning a friend from that 2011 set.
Panettiere was found unresponsive Sunday afternoon at a Greenville, South Carolina residence where she’d been temporarily staying, and pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m. at 36. An autopsy found no trauma; cause and manner of death are pending toxicology.
Roberts posted a tribute soon after: “Rest in peace my sweet friend. you are so loved and you will be forever missed.” The two played best friends Jill Roberts and Kirby Reed in “Scream 4” and became friends on that 2011 shoot.
The timing collided with the happiest stretch of Roberts’ year. She wed actor Cody John on July 25 at his family’s estate in Sun Valley, Idaho, in an outdoor ceremony where her 5-year-old son, Rhodes, walked her down the aisle. Guests included her aunt Julia Roberts, Demi Moore, Kristen Stewart, and Sarah Paulson.
The couple dated about four years before the wedding, meeting in 2022 through a mutual friend. Roberts has kept up her newlywed routine around LA, ring on, in the same days she’s grieving.
