Arnica ~ Arnica montana

NOTE: Arnica can be toxic to the liver so should NOT be used internally.

Arnica is a lovely plant with yellow flowers that spike upwards from the base plant. Because of liver toxicity, arnica is not recommended for internal use. However, arnica flowers can be used externally, alone or as part of an herbal blend, as a liniment, oil, or salve to treat joint pain and arthritis.

Governed by Saturn and the sign Capricorn, Arnica is energetically receptive, passive, and feminine. Its day is Saturday, its direction is North, and its power is To Keep Silence. Hecate, the angel Cassiel, and the Olympic Spirit Aratron are the deities associated with Arnica. In magickal workings, Arnica is used for protection from energetic or vampiric intrusion and can be included in charm/mojo/grisgris bags.
