Jim Carrey Officially Set to Star in The Jetsons Live Action Movie

After months of speculation, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that Jim Carrey will star in its upcoming live action adaptation of The Jetsons, bringing one of Hanna-Barbera’s most beloved animated families back to the big screen.

The project was first reported to be in development in late 2025, when Carrey entered talks to lead the film alongside Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow, who is attached to direct and co-write the screenplay with Joe Epstein. At the time, no deals had been finalized, but Warner Bros.’ latest shareholder update confirms the project is moving forward with Carrey officially onboard.

While Warner Bros. has yet to reveal story details or officially announce Carrey’s role, he is widely expected to play George Jetson, the lovable patriarch of the futuristic family. The original animated series followed George, his wife Jane, their children Judy and Elroy, along with their robot maid Rosie and loyal dog Astro as they navigated life in Orbit City.

The new adaptation continues Hollywood’s recent push to revive classic animated properties for modern audiences. The Jetsons has spent decades in development, with numerous live action attempts dating back to the 1980s that never reached production. This marks the closest the franchise has come to making the leap to live action.

Carrey’s casting also reunites the actor with another effects-heavy family franchise following his acclaimed performance as Dr. Robotnik in Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog films. His energetic comedic style has many fans believing he’s a natural fit for the overworked George Jetson.

Warner Bros. says the film is currently planned for release sometime after 2027, meaning audiences will likely have to wait a bit longer before taking a trip to Orbit City.
