After years of expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe at a rapid pace, Kevin Feige says Marvel Studios is taking a different approach.
In a recent interview with Empire, the Marvel Studios president reflected on the studio’s massive increase in movies and Disney+ series following Avengers: Endgame, admitting that the sheer volume of content left Marvel stretched too thin. The result is a renewed commitment to producing fewer projects with a greater focus on quality.
“We always try to focus on quality, but when quantity is so much, you get spread thin. We didn’t want to be spread thin,” Feige said.

The comments echo concerns that many fans have expressed over the past several years. Since 2019, Marvel has released a steady stream of theatrical films and Disney+ series, expanding the MCU at an unprecedented rate. While the strategy helped launch Marvel’s streaming presence, it also made it increasingly difficult for audiences to keep up with every new release.
According to Feige, Marvel produced more than 100 hours of content in the six years following Avengers: Endgame, more than doubling the amount of storytelling the studio created during its first twelve years. That pace ultimately convinced Marvel that it was time to slow down and become more selective with its releases.
One of the clearest examples of that new philosophy is the studio’s release schedule. Rather than filling every available window, Marvel intentionally left a significant gap between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The extra time allows filmmakers to focus on each project while giving audiences room to build anticipation for the next major chapter of the Multiverse Saga.

The strategy also extends beyond release dates. Feige indicated that Marvel wants future films and series to stand on their own, reducing the feeling that fans must watch every Disney+ show to understand the next movie. The goal is to make the MCU more accessible while allowing each project to tell its own story.
The timing of Feige’s comments comes as Marvel looks to regain momentum heading into some of its biggest upcoming releases, including Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars. Recent projects have been met with stronger fan reactions, and Marvel hopes that emphasizing quality over quantity will continue that trend.
While Marvel’s ambitious expansion helped grow the MCU into one of the largest franchises in entertainment, Feige believes the future lies in slowing down. If the new approach delivers stronger stories and more consistent films, it could mark the beginning of a new era for Marvel Studios.
