Millie Bobby Brown Reveals She Was “Heartbroken” After Losing Major Marvel Role

For most actors, missing out on a dream role is simply part of the business. But for Millie Bobby Brown, one audition still stands out as one of the most disappointing moments of her career.

During a recent appearance on Entertainment Weekly’s Lie vs. Lie series alongside her Enola Holmes 3 co-star Louis Partridge, Brown revealed that she screen-tested with Hugh Jackman for 2017’s Logan when she was just 11 or 12 years old. Although she made it far into the audition process, the role ultimately went to Dafne Keen, who made a memorable debut as Laura, better known to Marvel fans as X-23.

Brown admitted she walked away from the audition knowing things hadn’t gone the way she hoped.

“I remember leaving just feeling like I probably didn’t get it, and there was someone else that was better.”

The actress went on to describe how devastating the experience was at such a young age.

“I was broken. I was really broken.”

Looking back, it’s easy to imagine how different Hollywood might have looked had Brown landed the role. Instead, just a year before Logan arrived in theaters, she exploded onto the scene as Eleven in Netflix’s Stranger Things, a performance that quickly turned her into one of the biggest young stars in the world.

Since then, Brown has built an impressive résumé that includes starring roles in the Enola Holmes films, Damsel, The Electric State, and the Godzilla franchise. She has also become one of Netflix’s biggest leading stars, proving that missing out on Logan hardly slowed her momentum.

Meanwhile, Logan became one of the most celebrated superhero films ever made, with Dafne Keen’s performance as Laura earning widespread acclaim and eventually leading to her return alongside Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Even with the disappointment still fresh in her memory, Brown’s story serves as another reminder that one missed opportunity doesn’t define a career. In her case, losing out on Logan was followed by worldwide fame, multiple blockbuster franchises, and a career that continues to grow.
