The Peace Pole at Baltimore Montessori Public Charter School in Baltimore, Maryland, was recently replaced with a brand new Peace Pole after standing for more than ten years in the schoolyard. The re-dedication ceremony was held in the presence of all 400 students from preschool through middle school.
The Peace Pole features eight languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese Mandarin, and American Sign Language.
During the ceremony, a representative from each class spoke about peace and its importance in daily life. The celebration concluded with all the children singing peace songs together, creating a powerful and joyful moment of unity.
The Peace Pole also includes a dedication plate engraved with a quote from Dr. Maria Montessori, who strongly believed in education as the foundation for peace. The inscription reads:
“Establishing lasting peace is the work of education.”
