Married at First Sight has never shied away from conflict, but one of Season 20’s participants is now arguing that the show’s experts pick and choose which conflicts they’re willing to name out loud. Over the last 24 hours, Nick Uhlenhuth has taken to social media to press the point: the experts had plenty to say about a fellow cast member’s wardrobe, he says, but went silent the moment his wife screamed “f* you” to his face in the same room.
His question, in short: why does one get called out while the other gets a pass?
Nick’s frustration spilled out across a run of Threads posts, in one, he wrote, “How do we have the MAFS experts clocking Adam for wearing goofy outfits, and yet they stay COMPLETELY silent when my wife yells “f* you” to my face directly in front of them? 🤔 🤔”
He capped the sentiment off with a wry aside: “Never been so thankful to not be attending a Couple’s Retreat 💀.”
The moment he’s referring to unfolded during a group therapy session late in the season, when Courteney Landis and Nick sat down to unpack why their marriage wasn’t working. Courteney had been arguing that Nick wasn’t being authentic with her and that he wasn’t emotionally mature enough for the relationship. Nick, for his part, said he felt invalidated whenever he tried to express his feelings or opinions.
The tension boiled over when Nick essentially admitted he didn’t see a long-term romantic future with Courteney. Courteney, visibly emotional and angry, turned toward him and yelled “F you” directly to his face during the confrontation.
What made the exchange stand out, at least in Nick’s telling, is where it happened: not in a private argument, but in front of the experts and the other couples. In the aftermath, viewers piled on too, criticizing the experts for letting the outburst pass without comment.
Nick didn’t stop there. In another Threads post, he responded to an interview in which the experts said they “adored” Courtney, writing, “How are you gonna look back at everything I went through on MAFS, and have this stance, as an expert?”
The comment lands at the heart of his grievance — that the people meant to referee these relationships publicly sided with the person he says crossed a line.
For the record, Season 20’s experts are Paul C. Brunson, who also appears on Married at First Sight UK, and Miami-based couples counselor and sex therapist Dr. Lisa Paz. Neither has publicly responded to Nick’s posts.
