Rockstar Games has finally addressed the wave of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leaks that have spread across the internet over the past week, admitting the situation has been “heartbreaking” for the team behind the highly anticipated game.
The studio released a statement Wednesday acknowledging the leaked footage and confirming that the videos circulating online are legitimate gameplay from GTA 6. The leaks have appeared just days before Rockstar is scheduled to give fans an extended official look at the game.
“It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time,” Rockstar said.
The studio also apologized for the lengthy development cycle and the extended wait for official information, noting that development is now “nearly there.”
Rockstar’s statement comes after numerous gameplay clips began appearing online, reportedly released by an individual or group operating under the name CyberLeek. The footage has revealed several elements of the upcoming game, including gameplay involving protagonists Jason and Lucia, vehicles, NPC interactions and other mechanics that Rockstar had yet to officially showcase.

The leaks have become increasingly difficult for fans to avoid as clips have spread across social media. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has also reportedly taken legal action in an effort to identify those responsible, including seeking information from companies such as Microsoft and Discord.
Despite the leaks, Rockstar isn’t changing its plans for the game’s upcoming presentation.
“We are very excited for everyone to see the extended look tomorrow,” the studio said. “It has taken longer than we wanted to get it ready, but as with everything we do, we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve.”
Rockstar also acknowledged that some players may have already encountered spoilers and encouraged fans to wait for the finished experience rather than seeking out additional leaked footage.
The official Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look presentation is scheduled for August 27 at 3 p.m. ET. The game itself remains scheduled to launch November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
