Roughly 10 months before his death, Tim Curry spoke candidly about how he viewed his own mortality — reflections that took on new weight after he died and were shared again as a farewell.
Curry said this about 10 months before he died at home in the Los Angeles area on August 25, 2026, at age 80.
He was 79 when he sat down with Ben Mankiewicz for CBS Sunday Morning, in an interview that aired October 19, 2025, timed to the release of his memoir Vagabond. Asked directly whether he feared death, Curry said he didn’t believe in heaven or hell but was open to a peaceful oblivion, calling it something that “may be very comforting to go bye-bye.”
He wasn’t in a hurry to get there. He said he wanted to “earn” that peace rather than rush toward it.
Curry tied the outlook to his own brush with death. In July 2012 he suffered a major stroke that led to brain surgery, years of speech rehabilitation, and lasting partial paralysis that put him in a wheelchair. His father, a Royal Navy chaplain, had died of a stroke when Curry was about 12.
