Trusting the Process
Here we are entering July 2026—ten years since Margaret passed. Time seems to fly by.
My journey with Margaret began in October 2004 in Australia and New Zealand. We came to the United States in mid-December of that year, and Margaret and I married in Seattle in 2005.
Over the years, we traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia while also establishing two healing centers in the Seattle area between 2005 and 2012. We then spent a year in India, returned to the United States for a year in the San Francisco area, and then returned to India for another year.
In June 2016, Maitreya indicated through Margaret that it was time for us to return to the United States. Jean, Korinne, Ratna, Margaret, and I were excited to be returning to the Seattle area and to discover what the next step in the journey might hold.
Through every adventure with Maitreya—the experiences, the learning, and the continued uncertainty of never knowing what would unfold next—we learned through on-the-job training, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, to trust the process.
It felt good to be back in the Seattle area. Margaret and I celebrated our eleventh wedding anniversary on July 9, 2016, shortly after we returned. We were all excited to see what the rest of the year might bring.
Margaret had not been feeling well after developing an infection following a fall at the Delhi airport in India. On July 11, we took her to the hospital. They found a mild case of pneumonia and admitted her for treatment. Then, unexpectedly, she passed away two days later, on July 13.
In an instant, she was gone, and our lives changed in a heartbeat.
We looked at each other and wondered, “What do we do now?”
We spent much of the next year hiking and chasing waterfalls throughout Washington and Oregon as we processed Margaret’s passing. Yet the understanding of the game of life and our life purpose that Maitreya’s teachings brought into the world gradually offered perspective.
Days became months, months became years, and now, a decade later, each of us is still walking our own personal journey while also participating in the collective journey of humanity. The same is true for the people we meet at our fairs, those who visit the Maitreya website, and everyone we encounter in everyday life—whether they are part of the Maitreya community or not.
It still comes back to one simple lesson:
Trust the process.
None of us knows what circumstances life will place before us. Some experiences bring joy, while others bring heartbreak. Yet when we can trust the process of life, we are more likely to remain positive, continue moving forward, and avoid becoming trapped in victimhood or negativity.
Look around you and notice the good that still exists. Focus your energy on the recurring themes life continues to present. Those themes are often your greatest teachers.
I am still working on one of mine—judgment. I can still hear Maitreya’s voice asking me, “Alan, who gave you the right to judge?”
Perhaps that is why trusting the process is such an important lesson. We rarely see the whole picture while we are living it. Often, it is only years later that we begin to understand why certain people crossed our path, why doors opened or closed, and how even our greatest challenges quietly became our greatest teachers.
Keep trusting your journey. Every experience has a purpose, even when that purpose has not yet been revealed.
Continuing the Journey
After Margaret passed, the journey and the commitment did not end. In many ways, it was only beginning in a different form.
We had trusted the process that had led each of us to Margaret and Maitreya. Through the years, we had been given knowledge and understanding about the game of life, our purpose here, and the importance of becoming our own master.
Then suddenly, the physical presence of Margaret and Maitreya—the training wheels, the comfort zone, and the familiar guidance we had relied upon—was gone.
For Jean, Korinne, Ratna, and me, it became a time of learning to stand more firmly on our own feet. The knowledge and truth that had entered our lives through Margaret and Maitreya did not disappear when Margaret left the physical world. In many ways, it became stronger.
We came to understand that trusting the process was not only about accepting the joy and uncertainty of life. It was also about trusting that the work, the teachings, and the legacy of Margaret and Maitreya would continue in the way it was meant to continue.
The Maitreya website, Wisdom Cards, newsletters, teaching videos, the metaphysical fairs we participate in, and now the effort to preserve these teachings for future generations are all part of that continuing journey.
The purpose was never for anyone to become dependent upon Margaret, Maitreya, or any outside teacher. The purpose was always to learn, grow, release what no longer serves you, and ultimately become your own master.
That is what we continue to trust in today.
Message from Maitreya
Many of you ask, “Why did this happen?” Yet the better question is, “What am I here to learn from this experience?”
Life is not happening to you. It is unfolding for your soul’s evolution. Every challenge, every joy, every loss, and every new beginning is part of a much larger tapestry that your personality cannot always see.
When life suddenly changes direction, your lower self seeks certainty. It wants answers, someone to blame, or a reason to stop moving forward. Your higher self, however, understands that growth often comes through uncertainty.
The soul does not grow in the comfort zone. It grows when it is invited to trust.
Many of the greatest gifts in your life first arrive disguised as disappointments. It is only with the passing of time that you begin to see the perfection hidden within what once appeared to be imperfection.
Trust the process. Continue to take the next step in front of you. Do not measure your progress by today’s circumstances, but by the wisdom, compassion, and understanding you are developing within yourself.
One day you will look back and realize that what seemed to be the end of one chapter was simply the beginning of another.
