The surprise cancellation of Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man continues to leave fans searching for answers, and now showrunner Andrew Guest has offered the clearest explanation yet.
Just days after Disney and Marvel unexpectedly pulled the plug on the Disney+ series despite previously renewing it for a second season, Guest addressed fans directly in a TikTok video, shutting down many of the rumors that have circulated online.
According to Guest, the decision had nothing to do with scheduling conflicts, a secret Marvel movie, or a publicity stunt.
“Just want to say I’ve been listening. I appreciate you all. I feel how you all feel, and I just want to clear up what I can here. This is not a marketing stunt. There is no movie in the works. And no one’s schedule was an issue.”
Guest went on to reveal that the creative team had already begun preparing for Season 2.
“Yahya, Destin [Daniel Cretton], Sir Ben [Kingsley], and I all loved making this show, all felt passionately about continuing to do it, and were eager to. Contracts were signed, schedules were cleared. The writers’ room was supposed to start this month. Production was supposed to begin early next year, and there was a decision made internally between Disney and Marvel that this didn’t make sense for them — even though a few months ago it did.”
The comments suggest that Wonder Man‘s second season was much further along than fans realized before the project was abruptly canceled.
Entertainment Weekly also reports that Guest had already completed the first episode of Season 2 and had outlined the remainder of the season before Marvel Studios decided to end the series. He described the cancellation as deeply disappointing but expressed gratitude for the support the show received from critics and audiences alike.

The cancellation came as a shock across the industry. Wonder Man earned strong reviews and recently saw star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II receive an Emmy nomination for his performance as Simon Williams. Marvel had officially announced a second season just months earlier, making the reversal all the more surprising.
While Marvel Studios has not publicly explained the decision, Guest’s statement makes it clear that the cancellation stemmed from an internal business decision rather than creative problems or scheduling conflicts.
