2. Have Confidence
One can say it is easier to read emotional state, subtle indicators that tell what is beneath the surface, than it is to read a mind. Spirits are no exception to this, if an investigator is afraid, angry, or extremely frustrated it will be apparent to the encountered apparition. Conduct oneself with confidence and elegance and an investigator will find the situation more hospitable. Perhaps earning the respect of friendly spirits and instilling fear in malevolent spirits.

3. Stand Strong
Solid footing and a sure stance further enforce an investigator’s presence on the field. How one presents themselves and the body language thereof is important, not only to encounters, but to all aspects of investigation. The more professional you are, even in posture, the more likely you are to be well received during first impressions, with all entities, human and otherwise.

4. Emotional Presentation
Stone your heart, avoid all emotion except true strength of will. Be boldly passionate, yet calm. Exude an overwhelming energy of power and force. This techniques provide an aura of “don’t mess with this” and adds further evidence as to why any hostile entity should second guess ill-intent towards your team.
5. Powerful Intentions
Intent goes far in an encounter and as a demonologist one of your most powerful tools is wielding a strong intent. Your team’s demonologist will maintain an overall intent rooted deeply in “not to be reckoned with” or simply “not here to negotiate”.
This lays a foundation for the encounter as non-negotiable and provides appartitions with a vague uncertainty as to what will happen, the end result of your intent being contingent upon the spirit and its reaction to your presence. The fact that, if it is a nefarious spirit, you will take action is implied overall. This implication causes fear in darker spirits and the unrest can be used to the demonologist’s advantage.
6. Face your Fears
Stare it down, have a face to face showdown with what you see before you, do not break previous techniques. Hold steadfast. Remember that as the demonologist you are the scariest thing on site. Remember that the entity before you fears you because of your professionalism and intent, that it respects you for your strength, and that it knows you have unwavering resolve before its presence. You are alive and strong willed and will not be reckoned with. You are a force upon the field.
7. Test the Spirit
Scrutinize the spirit, its form, its actions up til now, its lore, and what you feel around you. Your technique will vary, and no two paranormal encounters will ever be the same. Avoid questions, word everything as if you are talking to a genie (word choice matters), and don’t make any deals, you are not here to negotiate. Don’t be afraid to make stern, bold commandments, and express yourself forcefully if any entities become less than peaceable. Command it to provide specific information, truthfully.

8. Enact your Will
Spirits that do not pass demonology tests are found to be malignant or dangerous and should be exorcised, contained, and banished. Techniques for this vary by culture, religion, and entity. It is suggested to leave this step to experienced professionals, however for emergency situations our demonologists suggest the tried and true “be gone, you are not welcome here” followed by similar stereotypical phrases, noting the more people participating the better. The spirit of a living person with strong spiritualism is commonly believed to have the most impact on any demonology approach.
