A Prayer To Know When To Hold On And When To Let Go

Finding peace starts with surrendering our worries to the universe and trusting that God’s guidance will meet us in the middle of our uncertainty. Best-selling author of Finding God Every Day, Rebecca Simon, reminds us to trust God’s timing, embrace patience, and lean on His presence through every season of life.

A prayer for the ones stuck between holding on and letting go.

God,

I’m stuck. I don’t know if I’m supposed to keep fighting for this or if I’m supposed to let it go. I don’t know if holding on is faith or if it’s fear. I don’t know if letting go is surrender or if it’s giving up too soon. So today, I’m asking you to show me clearly — when to hold on and when to let go.

Give me discernment to know the difference between perseverance and stubbornness. Help me recognize when I’m holding onto something because you told me to, or when I’m holding on because I’m afraid of what happens if I don’t. Show me when letting go is actually obedience, not failure.

God, I don’t want to spend another day forcing what you’re releasing or walking away from what you’re asking me to steward. So make it clear. Speak to my spirit in a way I can’t miss.

Help me trust that whatever you’re asking me to release isn’t being taken from me — it’s being removed to make space for what’s next. And whatever you’re asking me to hold onto, give me the strength to fight for it even when it’s hard. I’m listening, God.

Show me what to do.

Amen.
