After years of rumors surrounding a foldable iPhone, Apple has finally made it official.
Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on Wednesday, marking the company’s first entry into the foldable smartphone market and one of the biggest changes to the iPhone lineup in years.
The new device starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model and features a book-style folding design. When closed, the Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display. Opening the device reveals a 7.6-inch inner display, which Apple says is the largest display ever offered on an iPhone.
Apple CEO John Ternus called the Duo the company’s biggest transformation of the iPhone since the original:
“iPhone Duo is the most transformational change to iPhone since the original.”
The Duo is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip and features a titanium construction, dual-battery architecture and software specifically designed to take advantage of the larger folding display. Users can multitask across apps on the expanded screen, while the folding design also introduces new options for photography, video calls and content viewing.

Apple has also equipped the Duo with two 48-megapixel rear cameras, while both displays support ProMotion. The device runs iOS 27, which has been redesigned in several areas to accommodate the foldable form factor.
Despite the radically different design, Apple is positioning the Duo as both an iPhone and a pocket-sized productivity device, giving users an iPad-like workspace without carrying a second device.
The iPhone Duo will be available in Star White and Night Sky, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. Preorders begin October 16, followed by its official release on October 23.
At $1,999, it will also become the most expensive entry-level iPhone Apple has ever released.
