Explanations About ‘God’ From Extensively Documented Channeling Case Chronologies (Blog Series Article No. 4)
A famous newspaper headline about Edgar Cayce is shown within an illustration by AI language model Grok 4.
Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) became known as an American mystic and “psychic diagnostician” healer following hypnotic sessions where he would go into a trance and his body would be used as a channel. The communicating Intelligence would speak in plurality, usually beginning a ‘reading’ with a statement such as “We have the body . . .” and finishing upon saying “We are through for the present.” The channeling session transcript excerpts presented in this blog article are presented here verbatim from an edition of bound supplement transcripts pertaining to the Individual Reference File of Extracts from the Edgar Cayce Readings; and also from A Search for God: The Source Materials (2021) presenting channeling session transcripts assigned the number 262 (262-1 through 262-123).
The 262 series of early study group sessions (the “Study Group #1” or “A Search for God” series) commenced circa 1931–1932. For example, Edgar Cayce reading 262-31 is reported to have been given on the 30th day of October, 1932, at Edgar Cayce’s home on Arctic Crescent in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The session was conducted in accordance with a request from those present, with Gertrude Cayce as conductor and Edgar’s secretary Gladys Davis as stenographer. The reading addressed the group’s work on lessons, including reviews of prior material and preparation for topics such as “In His Presence.” The ‘search for God’ brought realizations about how living a life through being conscious of the God within oneself is the Way of cultivating Happiness.
39-3 . . . The withered rod became the budded almond in the hands of him who sought to know His ways, and applied same in his life. Keep thine eyes, thine heart, ever to that source from which emanates all power that lifts man toward the Creator.
136-12 A1 . . . the forces which are manifest to bring relief to physical force are not of a one faith, but a oneness in faith in the God-force manifest in the individual, see? Study then those truths, for they remain a oneness, whether Jewish, Gentile, Greek, or heathen.
136-78 A1 . . . For all life is one, all force is one, and when one applies self and attains through attunement, through that consciousness that may approach the universal consciousness, then those experiences sought may come through.
137-126 . . . for truly, all force is of God, and the manner in which men applies the knowledge of the force is the material result. Even as has existed that element known as radioactive force, a natural law
—and has existed from the beginning. Man’s ability to attune—through material elements—to that of the active force, brings same to his material or physical consciousness and is then of that same force, same energy, as experienced by self.
262-97plp3 For knowledge is power, and all force, all power, emanates from the one source.
262-114 there is no power that emanates that is not from God.
262-115plp6 All SPIRIT is ONE. How? Just as all force, all power emanates from that influence, that essence, that consciousness, that awareness which the consciousness of man
—or men, as the image of the Creator—worships.
281-32 Q5 Do we interpret correctly the angel described in Revelation 10 . . .? A5 It might be set, or interpreted, as the guardian force, for . . . all force, all power, all knowledge (constructive) is from a one source
—is it not? Then the guardian force is that ability to use or abuse that which has been combined in the book.
900-70 A6 As each and every atom in the universe has its relative relation with every other atom, then man’s development lies in the relativity of all forces, whether applied in the physical world or that existence in man’s earthly existence before, for the relativity of one force applies to another. Hence all relative forces apply to man’s development whether mental, physical or spiritual.
557-3 For, when the earth was brought into existence or into time and space, all the elements that are without man may be found in the living human body. Hence these in coordination as we see in nature, as we see in the air, as we see in the fire or in the earth, make the soul, body and mind one coordinating factor with the universal energy we call God.
619-5 The activity of an entity (soul-body-mind) as a unit, in whatever sphere of experience or consciousness it may function, it is the thread of life that connects with that which is to be opened when those experiences are to be made as one with that Universal Consciousness.
544-1 Q1 How may I renew my vision that I may feel more of the joy of salvation?
A1 By making manifest that thou knowest in thine own experience today.
5747-2
— What hath He said? All that force, all power, comes from Him the UNIVERSAL Force or Power. Then, how are ye to be judged? “As ye do it unto the fellow man, ye do it unto me.”
3581 . . . altars were set up to tie up the meaning of ‘The Lord Thy God is One.” The building up of this thought makes no bonds, no slaves among any peoples.
1011-1 The spiritual world is the realm from which all force or power emanates. And through the mind there is built in materiality those things that either make or mar that influence in the experience of the entity in any given activity in the earth.
4341-1 First the Continuity of Life. There is no time; it is one time; there is no space; it is one space; there is no force; other than all force in its various phases and applications of force are the emanations of men’s endeavors in a material world to exemplify an ideal or its concept and the creative energy, or God, of which the individual is such a part that the thoughts even of the individual may become crimes or miracles, the thoughts are deeds and applied in the sense that these are in accord with those principles as given. That, that one meets must be met again. That one applies must be applied again and again until the one-ness, time, space, force or the own individual is one with the whole, in the whole with such a portion of the whole as to be equal with the whole.
4665 (A 12) . . . also there must be perfect cooperation with inner self to obtain that information that would give us knowledge to apply same in connection with cosmic relation for all force is one and not obtaining proper relation of energies as set forth and releases, these must coordinate.
3976-24 (A 4) The Social Order, the Religious Order, the Economic Order must all be one for God! For, Know that the Lord Thy God is One.
1058-1 (A 1) As indicated, these become a portion of the experience because of its activities in the various fields of the appearances in the earth. Only in Him, knowing — as he has given, “Ye abide in me and I in you, and I will cast out fear.” And ye will come to that understanding that all forces, all power, emanates from the spirit of Truth — the Christ.
2144 And if the entity learned eventually in that experience, so will it in this: All such must emanate from the spiritual, for a spiritual purpose and not the use or abuse of spiritual forces for material gains.
2756-11 The question: how would spirit move upon matter as to bring into existence that which possesses a body and a spirit? This we see in the elementals, as we consider matter in its gaseous form with all the powers of the divisions in which it (the gas) is subject under the varied conditions that may exist. For, the matter (in its elemental form) was moved upon the spirit of God and became that which partook (or partakes) of all force and influence in the sphere of activity to which it (the element) had been (and has been) delegated by the Infinite Spirit that possesses all those forces or influences that may be seen in all realms of activity, from the lowest unto infinitum. Hence, we see all became impregnated with the spirit of the Creator; Hence are of the one source of power.
900-89, A-13. All is Life. God is God of the living. God is God of force, which is of God . . . in the physical world we have the electronic forces in the universe, with the higher voltage of electricity against a lower voltage — both may become short circuited. Now are all of a one force, one working in opposition to another, each moving at a higher or lower vibration, physically. The same applies in the spiritual forces. All are of one, as all are in the Mind of the Creator, all made through the Mind of the Creator, to serve in their various capacities . . . each filling their own place . . . or as has been presented by Leadbeater, Man is but a corpuscle in the great body of the Creator.
1462-1 SPIRIT
As in numbers one builds upon the other (as units) and all are formations or divisions or multiples of units of one, so the universe and the expressions of all nature within same are the manifestations of that one force, one power, one spirit, one energy known as or called a Universal Force, Creative Energy, or God.
Hence there is a purposefulness in every experience; and this may be worked out, just as mathematically as any problem of such a nature.
That there are those relative relationships through Influences through which an entity or soul as a unit passes becomes then natural; or a natural consequence just as Conscience IS, Life IS, God IS.
Thus these ofttimes become misunderstood by those who give too great an importance to an individual activity or experience.
For just as an experience of a soul or entity into the material plane is purposeful as a lesson, as a schooling, so the Influences through which the entity passes become as those influences in an individual experience in the material plane affecting the entity as Environment or Heredity. And these are just as motivative in the activities of an entity in any experience as the influences from material activities that are as hereditary or environmental.
For as a soul enters it is spirit, as God is Spirit. And as there is the building thru the material associations of that thru which there may become Life or activative force (which is as an entity’s activity), these became then as Influences for judgements as parallels of such influences in the experience of an entity, a soul, a mind. For remember, Mind (as is called) is the Builder.
The Influences from sojourns in Environs from without the material plane are as the innate or MENTAL urges that may come as dreams or visions or the like; while the Influences from the material sojourns or individual appearances in the Earth are as the earth-earthy HEREDITY that may come in what we know as the emotions—or those influences that may be sensed by the emotions.
Yet all of these work or build as it were one upon another, making for that Body-Politique as it were that is known as an individual entity or soul in the material plane.
1580-1 Hold fast to those things that do not divide the peoples’ purposes in their dealings with their fellow men!
As Life is a continuous experience, so are the activities of an entity a line upon which is written that above or below same that makes for the harmony and peace and understanding, or for turmoil and strife . . .
Though there may be disturbing influences, these may be overcome through the practicing of just the opposite. For the accomplishment comes in any direction through the doing — the DOING!
For while the body, the mind and the soul may be spoken of as three divisions of the one, it is only in the conception of their ONENESS—as it relates to the Oneness without—that the strength of our abilities is aroused to fulfill the purpose for which we entered.
Let us then cleave unto Good—which is God; showing ourselves acceptable in our OWN conscience. Why we harken not to the things of the flesh nor of darkness, but hold to the LIGHT!
May our desires be manifested by the purposefulness in giving to our fellow man that we have gained and are capable of giving out; that it is not the thing itself to be worshiped but the SPIRIT that prompts its manifestation in the experiences of men!
3508-1 — 12/13/43 EC’s mental and spiritual reading to a housewife: As we find, in giving that which may be of help for the entity, it is well that there be given the premise from which such may be drawn. For it must be that which must answer to the purpose, the spirit within. And choices are to be made by the entity itself.
In analyzing self, the entity finds itself body, mind and soul, that answers in the three-dimensional plane to the Godhead
— Father, Son, Holy Spirit. God moved, the spirit came into activity. In the moving it brought light, and then chaos. In this light came creation of that which in the earth came to be matter; in the spheres about the earth, space and time; and in patience it has evolved through those activities until there are the heavens and all the constellations, the stars, the universe as it is known — or sought to be known by the individual soul-entities in the material plane.
Then came into the earth materiality, through the spirit pushing itself into matter. Spirit was individualized, and then became what we recognize in one another as individual entities. Spirit that uses matter, that uses every influence in the earth’s environ for the glory of the Creative Forces, partakes of and is a part of the universal consciousness.
As the entity, an individual, then applies, it becomes aware
— through patience, through time, through space — of its relationship to the Godhead — Father, Son, Holy Spirit. In self it finds body, mind soul. As the Son is the builder, so is the mind the builder in the individual.
Then, as the entity here, . . . (3508) entertains this or that concept of materiality, it sets in motion that which is either contrarywise or in accord with the divine purpose.
Then the purpose of the entity, and how it may attain to that peace, that at-onement which the Son found in the Father:
The purpose of the entity in the earth, is that it may know itself, also to be itself, and yet at one with the Creative Forces, fulfilling those purposes for which the entity comes into the earth accepting, believing, knowing then thy relationship to that Creative Force. For He hath called thee friend; not servant, but a friend, a brother, a sister. For “who is my mother, my brother, my sister? That they do the will of the Father in heaven, the same is my mother, my brother, my sister.”
Thus it behooves the entity to seek what is the will of the Father concerning thine individual self, to sow the seed of the spirit of truth, just being kind, patient, showing brotherly love, long-suffering, being gracious. This is sowing the seed, this is the will of the Father. For he that loveth his brother, his neighbor, yea his enemy, is a brother to the Lord
— the Lord who is the Son, who is the Savior, who is the spirit of truth and purpose.
As there are applied in relationships to others we come to those questions that have been indicated; when ye shall stand before the throne of mercy, the throne of grace. “Inasmuch as ye have done unto one of these, even my little ones, ye have done unto me.” Visiting the sick, the imprisoned, supplying those needs in the way of speaking gently, being patient with the froward
[stubborn] — as these are applied they bring peace into the heart, into the soul of the entity. For as He gave, only through the seed of the spirit may ye overcome the world — even as He overcame the world. And the things of the world as to be used as in glory to the Father, and in honor to self.
– – – –
Then, make the paths straight — just being patient, just being kind, just showing brotherly love. Then the entity may find in itself its relationship to others. Then speak oft with thy Lord as ye would speak to thy brother. Oft approach Him in these matters, though in thine own words:
FATHER, GOD! THOU WHO HAST GIVEN HEAVEN AND EARTH TO MAN! WE THY CHILDREN HAVE WANDERED FAR AWAY, AND YET IN THE PROMISE OF THE CHRIST, THE SAVIOR, WE MAY COME TO THEE AND ASK THAT WHICH IS THE DESIRE OF OUR HEARTS IN THY CAUSE. AND HE HAS PROMISED, O GOD, TO ANSWER — IN THE MEASURE WE METE TO OUR FELLOW MAN. SHOW THOU ME, O GOD, THE WAY. LET MY LIFE, MY PURPOSE, MY BODY, MY MIND, BE DEDICATED TO THE LOVE OF MY FELLOW MAN, IN THE SAME WAY AS THE MASTER, THE CHRIST, WOULD HAVE ME DO. LEAD, O LORD! I WILL FOLLOW WHERE THOU LEADEST. We are through.

Blogger’s note: The first chapter of A Search for God: The Source Materialsbegins with this overview statement.
In September 1951, the first of what would become 130 readings in a series given over the next eleven years on the topic of personal transformation and soul growth took place. Sixteen individuals had gathered with Edgar Cayce to inquire as to whether they could undertake a group study of the information that came through him. Undoubtedly, those present listened with close attention and perhaps some measure of surprise when the sleeping Cayce suggested that not only could those gathered study the information but they could also become a “light to the waiting world” as they applied what they would learn. It might have come as somewhat of a shock to a few of those present that their first lesson was not about the mysteries of the mind, or the secrets of the universe, or the workings of reincarnation and karma, or even proven methods for expanding personal consciousness but instead a rather mundane-sounding lesson entitled “Cooperation.” This was the beginning of what would become the “Search for God” study group material . . .
Excerpts from A Search for God: The Source Materials (2021)
From Reading 262-1
EC: Yes, we have the group—as a group—as gathered here, seeking to be a channel that they, as a group, as individuals, may be—and give—the light to the waiting world . . .
The first LESSON—as has been given—learn what it means to cooperate in ONE mind, in GOD’S way; for, as each would prepare themselves, in meditating day and night, in “What wilt thou have ME do, O Lord?” and the ANSWER WILL be DEFINITE, clear, to each as are gathered here, will they seek in His name; for He is AMONG you in this present hour, for all as SEEK are in that attitude of prayer. Pray YE, that ye may be ACCEPTABLE to Him in thy going ins and coming outs; for holy is he that seeks to be a light to his brother; and faints not in the trials nor the temptations, for He tempts NONE beyond that they are ABLE to bear. Bear ye one another’s burdens, in that each fills his OWN heart—as is GIVEN, ANSWER when He calls—”Here am I, send me.”
From Reading 262-3
. . . Let thy prayer be continually:
NOT MY WILL BUT THINE, O LORD, BE DONE IN AND THROUGH ME. LET ME EVER BE A CHANNEL OF BLESSINGS, TODAY, NOW, TO THOSE THAT I CONTACT, IN EVERY WAY. LET MY GOING IN, MINE COMING OUT BE IN ACCORD WITH THAT THOU WOULD HAVE ME DO, AND AS THE CALL COMES, “HERE AM I, SEND ME, USE ME!”
From Reading 262-14
(Q) [255]: Is the faith of man in Buddha or Muhammad equal in the effect on his soul to the faith in Jesus Christ?
(A) As He gave, he that receiveth a prophet in the NAME of a prophet RECEIVES the prophet’s reward, or that ABILITY that that individual spiritual force MAY manifest in the life of that individual. Hence, as each teacher, minister or seer, or prophet, receives that obeisance as is giving the life from that faith and hope as held by that as an individual, in the Christ is found that as the advocate WITH the Father and the spirit of the Father glorified in him that approaches through that manner, without that as is approached in the spiritual activity of any individual; for individuality is last lost, even as man in spirit overcomes death in the material; even as He overcame death in the material, and able to put on immortality in a material world, bringing to man not only of flesh that endowed WITH the ability to be one WITH the Father but magnifying the Father IN the individual yet in the material plane. Hence, as we find, each in their respective spheres are but stepping-stones to that that may awaken in the individual the knowledge of the Son in their lives.
From Reading 262-44
The first lesson that each must learn: Love is the giving out of that within self.
As we show forth, then, in our speech, in our actions day by day, do we make manifest that which will make for the awareness within our own consciousness of the love, that love, His love, that passeth all understanding in man’s life—as man; yet is a practical, personal love that makes for joy in the services that one may render, even in toil, in pain, in misunderstandings that shape the activities of the lives of so many that would walk with Him!
In the deed, in the act, do we see that promised come to each, that “I will come and abide with thee—if ye love me, keep my commandments.” For these are neither grievous nor hard to bear when self is not sought to be exalted in the day or in the hour.
But, “Ye that have known me knoweth my Father also, for I am in Him, and ye in me may know that love that maketh the life burn as an ember in a darkened and unregenerated world. For onto me must come all that would find the way. I AM the way. Ye are my brethren, ye have been begotten in the flesh through the love made manifest in the earth.”
Then in the spirit and in the mind that hast brought thee to that understanding and consciousness of His love made manifest, abide ye day by day.
From Reading 262-46
(Q) Please give a definition for, “God so loved the world as to give His only begotten son.”
(A) A beautiful lesson has just been given, and definition. This may suit those seeking this the better. God, the Father, the first cause, seeking—in the manifestations of self—brought the world, as we (as individuals) observe it about us, into being—THROUGH love; giving to man, His creation, His creatures, that ability to become one with Him. That son WE have called the Son of man, the Christ Spirit, the love made manifest in bringing the creature into material being in a plane we have called earth. That son was shown, then, the way, through the love of the Father, and He made manifest that love in giving His earthly, material life for a cause, an ensample, a mediation, a contact with the Father, a mediator for man. Hence in love, through love, God IS love, in the Christ Consciousness, the Christ Spirit; the Son of man made same manifest in all the experiences through the earth. Hence, as given by the beloved disciple, “God so loved the world as to give His only begotten son,” that we, THROUGH Him, might have life — God — more abundant. He, though He were the Son, learned obedience through the things which He suffered. He that climbs up any other way than accepting those things that are to be met day by day, even as He, seeks through some other channel. The servant may never be greater than the master. He has given that we may be equal and one with Him, yet through Him, His manifestations, in Him, we live in the earth, we move and have our being.
From Reading 262-58
(Q) Please discuss, “How and What are the manifestations of the Father?”
(A) The fruits of the spirit. Gentleness, kindness, the loving word, patience, hope, persistence, and—above all—consistency in thy acts and in thy speech. Be ye glorious in thine activity. Be ye joyous in thy words for HAPPY is the man that knoweth that his life bespeaks that the Son and the Spirit of Truth directs the words and the activities of his body!
From Reading 262-60
Condemn not in word, in thought or activity, that ye be not condemned. See in every expression of activity the attempt of that soul to express or manifest that soul’s concept of divine reality. For, each soul, as it gives expression in thought, in act, shows by the fruits of that done as to what is the impelling influence in that soul’s experience. Then, not as a judge, not as a faultfinder, but rather as He gave, be merciful to those that err, for they know not what they do—unless they be guided by the spirit of truth that cleanseth all from that of selfishness and makes of them as one with the influence of the Christ Consciousness in their lives. Seeing such, sending forth the same prayer as He in those words over Jerusalem—“thou that stonest the prophets, how oft would I—and ye would not!” Yet those very things, those very souls are today seeking to know the meaning of those words of His in their own experiences in the present. Let thy light so shine among those that they may take thought of those things as He gave, in those blessings He gave even to those that crucified; who gave Himself that others might know the, the light, the truth.
From Reading 262-78
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. How? The MIND of God MOVED, and matter, form, came into being.
Mind, then, in God, the Father, is the builder. How much more, then, would or should Mind be the builder in the experience of those that have put on Christ or God, in Him, in His coming into the earth? For as He has given, “Let that mind be in you which was in the Christ, who thought it not robbery to make Himself equal with God,” but living in materiality in the earth, in matter, as a body; but with the Mind, with the thought, with the manifestations of a Creative Force all together.
Then, Destiny as related to that Mind: Mind as related to Destiny must conform, must confine, must be amenable to, must be as one of the immutable laws that has been set by that MIND calling into being worlds, the universe, the earth, man, giving man a portion of Himself, and furnishing man—as it were—a channel, an access, to that Throne of grace, mercy, truth, that Mind of God itself; the soul, the ultimate, the only portion that may be in accord with or in the presence of Him. For, as has been given, flesh and blood does not inherit eternal life. Flesh and blood is merely an expression, and in all its attributes carries with same those portions, those movements, those urges; just as each atom is made up of urges according to the movement of and with what? That which in its final analysis in the Mind of that Creative Energy which has called into being the mind that is a portion of self. And what is its Destiny? Is it that as the man thinketh in his heart so is he? or as ye sow, so shall ye reap?
That ye think, that ye put your Mind to work upon, to live upon, to live with, to abide with, to associate with in the mind, THAT your soul-body becomes! That is the law. That is the Destiny. That IS as from the beginning, that each though of the Creator bore within itself its OWN fruit as from the beginning.
How does matter, how does the seed of the oak or of the grass or of the flower or of the tree or of the animal or of the man, find within itself that which impels, propagates the specie? the activative force that moves on in its realm of activity in whatsoever sphere it may find itself, giving expressions of that first thought of the Creative Forces? That is its Destiny, which the easterners say was set in the first. But, as ye see, this is only half a truth. For if the Mind dwells upon the spiritual things, then it follows that it becomes what it has dwelt upon, what it has lived upon, what it has made itself a portion of. But if the Mind dwells upon self-indulgence, self-aggrandizement, self-exaltation, selfishness in any of its forms, in any of its variations, then it has set itself at variance to that First Cause; and we have that entered in as from the beginning, that of making the will through the Mind—at variance to Creative Forces before it has come into matter, into the movements in matter that we know as physical, material, as those things that are of the earth-earthy . . .
So as ye contemplate, as ye meditate, as ye look upon the Mind, know the Mind hath many windows. And as ye look out of thine inner self, know whereunto thou art looking, thou art seeking. What is thy ideal? What would you have your mind-body to become? For that upon which it feeds it becomes, that either by thought, by assimiliation, by activity, by radial force, by atomic influence, by the very influence of its activity in WHATEVER SPHERE that activity may be within. And in the material mind it is the same.
From Reading 262-81
. . . Only in man may we see—through his relationships to his brother—selfishness, uncomeliness, the desire for self-aggrandizement or for self’s own gratification without thought or concept of what may be the result of its activity. Hence man in his destiny makes for, in the body, that which he as an individual, as a personality, must meet in personality or in the flesh—or in the manifestations of same, with the awareness of that as may be builded in and through those various activities through which the body in its varied environments, its varied activities, may find itself. And what makes for the change? WILL! What, then, is WILL? That which makes for the dividing line between the finite and the infinite, the divine and the wholly human, the carnal and the spiritual. For the WILL may be made one WITH HIM, or for self alone. With the Will, then, does man destine in the activities of a material experience how he shall make for the relationships with Truth . . . So, in the Destiny of thy Body, make the WILL (How? Through the Mind of the Body!) at-one with Him; knowing in thine self that what has been set, what is IS—as God. Yet in Christ may ye meet EVERY trial, every temptation. For how hath He spoken? That through offenses must come (and woe be to those by whom they come!), He hath not allowed those to be tempted beyond that (in the body), above that which they are ABLE to bear . . .
From Reading 262-92
GLORY is the ability of the individual, the object, the personality, the god-force, to SERVE.
Then, when this is considered from this phase or angle, we find that oft there is VAINGLORY. When that spoken so oft by the sages, the prophets of old, is considered, as to how the glory of the Lord would fill the earth, it is seen as to how vain becomes the experiences of individuals who have lost sight of that purpose for which those individuals, groups or masses spoke—or were spoken to—as to the glory that might be theirs.
As it has so oft been given from the first, KNOW that the Lord, thy God, is ONE! Know that thy ability, thy service, begins first with COOPERATION in BEING that channel through which the Glory of the Lord may be manifested in the earth!
For, “The earth IS the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof—Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge!”
If ye would, then, fill that whereunto thou hast been called, let thy Glory—let thy Knowledge—let thy WISDOM—be in the Lord!
From Reading 262-108
(Q) You will give the fundamental principles for our study of the next lesson on Happiness.
(A) These have long been given, as has just been outlined, that if ye would be Happy: No envy, no strife, no faultfinding, no heckling—but rather the JOY of the Lord, and in seeing beauty and grace in EVERY thing! How hath it been given? Unless ye can see in those that dislike thee, that despitefully use thee, that ye would worship in that ye would call a manifestation of God, can ye know Happiness? Then, only those who make Happiness in the lives and the experiences of others may indeed know what it is to be Happy. Have ye made anyone Happy that was discouraged, that was disturbed, that was misunderstood? Not that ye condone anything, but the love of God that taketh away sadness and sorrow. What is the life in the presence of the Christ depicted as? That He shall wipe away every tear, and no sickness and no sorrow shall be in that Happy land. So the fundamentals are: Casting out fear first in thine own heart, and aiding others to aid themselves—in gaining an insight into THEIR relationships with the Creative Forces or God. Tell them of the Happiness in the Christ Way, in the manner that Jesus showed Himself to be the Christ; and the joy and Happiness in keeping HIS ways, His promises, His joys, His life before thee and before them always. This is the mission of those who would bring Happiness into the experience of others; and as ye share, ye become Happy in the way.
What—in thy study, thy experience, thy understanding—made the man Jesus the Christ? His willingness in the flesh to give Himself instead of the world for the knowledge and help of others! THIS brought into the individual experience the Kingdom of God. What, then, is the variation between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven? In the finding out of these, in their variation, in the Happiness of ye that seek the Way.
From Reading 262-109
Happiness is abiding in the Infinite Love.
Then to each individual here there comes the necessity of making infinite love compatible with the material surroundings day by day.
From Reading 262-10
. . . For Happiness is being busy about the Lord’s work; not in other people’s business, not in that of stirring up strife, but rather as He brought to the world that of peace and Happiness in going about doing good.
From Reading 262-11
It is well that you each—in the study of that which was given as necessary for your better concept of Happiness as applied in your personal experiences—think, too, on the difference between Pleasure and Happiness. It is like the spiritual and the material. We oft see things beautiful, and they come out of that which may be very murky, very bad-appearing yet that necessary for the beauty.
So with Happiness. Only when one has lost sight of self, in the appreciation of the love, beauty and hope in the Creative Forces and their activity, may one indeed know Happiness.
That which gratifies only the sensuous self, or as an aggrandizement of physical pleasure, RARELY brings Happiness. Out of the dregs of same may GROW Happiness, but in themselves they are only passing.
To illustrate: The road to Gethsemane, to the minds of those who look upon their own Gethsemane, was as a road of thorns; the perspiration, the sweat of blood and all appear anything but Happiness—yet the kind words spoken, even on the way to Calvary, were indeed those that brought Happiness.
And as there were the words from the Cross, these—though filled with all of the horrors of spite, fear by the very activities of others—were such as to bring Happiness into the hearts and minds of those who seek to know His Way.
It is again as Infinite Love and Divine Love. Infinite Love is the love of God, while Love Divine is that manifested by those in their activities who are guided by love divine. These bring Happiness and the experiences of joy; not mere pleasure, not gratification of any of the material things.
Happiness, then, is of love divine; manifesting in the experiences as one gives a cup of water in His name, that may bring much greater Happiness than to he that taketh a city, or to he that ruleth even a nation. You each are endowed, to be sure, with power only from one source, but to know Happiness—then—is to do the biddings of the Father; or as He gave, “If ye love me, keep my commandments—[John 14:15] they are not grievous—” [I John 5:3]
