Nicolas Cage is officially stepping into the shadows as a very different kind of Spider-Man. New images from Spider-Noir reveal Cage suited up as a gritty, hard-boiled version of the iconic hero, set against the rain-soaked streets of 1930s New York City.
Unlike the youthful, optimistic Peter Parker audiences know, Spider-Noir centers on Ben Reilly, an older, battle-worn private investigator who once served as the city’s only masked vigilante. This version of Spider-Man has already lived through his heroic arc and is now stuck wrestling with the consequences of it.
Co-showrunner Oren Uziel explained the character’s mindset clearly:
“Ben Reilly has already gone through the entire arc and has seen it all. He’s over it, and trying to move past it. But his past kind of keeps coming back to haunt him.”
Visually, the series leans hard into classic noir aesthetics. Cage’s Spider-Man trades spandex for layered coats, fedoras, and shadow-heavy lighting that feels closer to a detective thriller than a traditional superhero show. One description perfectly captures the surreal tone, joking that Cage looks like “a spider trying to cosplay as a human.”

The supporting cast helps flesh out this alternate Marvel universe. Lamorne Morris plays Robbie Robertson, while Li Jun Li appears as Cat Hardy, a nightclub singer whose presence reinforces the smoky, jazz-infused atmosphere of the era. Together, they populate a world that feels pulled straight from a pulp novel.
One of the boldest creative choices is how the series will be presented. Spider-Noir will be released in both black-and-white and color versions, allowing viewers to fully embrace the old-school noir vibe or experience the story through a modern lens.
Produced for Prime Video and MGM+, Spider-Noir is shaping up to be one of the most stylistically daring superhero projects in recent memory. With its 2026 debut on the horizon, the series promises a darker, moodier take on Spider-Man that leans into mystery, regret, and redemption rather than flashy heroics.
