When the Russia–Ukraine war started, we put up our 8-foot Peace Pole in our front yard. I wanted it to be like a giant candle that never goes out—a light in the darkness, day and night.

My husband immediately started problem-solving and found a solar light designed for flagpoles. Since we live in San Antonio, Texas, and get plenty of sunshine, it was a perfect fit. With a few minor adjustments, he replaced the pole’s top cap with the solar light. Now it casts a beautiful glow downward all night long, every night of the year. I love the symbolism of it.

I’ve also included two additional photos that show the rest of my front-yard peace statement. Together, they reflect my belief that we are all one global family, connected beyond borders, cultures, and differences.
