Likewise, civilizations have developed meaningful ceremonies and meditative practices to harness this pivotal moment for millennia. Worldwide traditions take pause when the cyclical dark rhythms begin to recede, and the annual patterns of light slowly return. In the Great Wheel’s juncture and quiet seasonal stillness, our ancestors saw the importance of slowing down – to allow for deep rest, profound introspection, and peaceful renewal.

The nighttime stretched into its longest reach, when the world suspended its breath for what was referred to as the “turning of the light” – a sacred pause, with symbolic endings and beginnings. The key meaning of the word solstice comes from solstitium (in Latin,) which translates as “the sun stands still.” Vibrationally, this precious node is cherished as a stellar exhale. Internationally, to deliberately co-participate with this pregnant still point, great monuments were naturally built to align with this essence – from Scandinavia to Mesoamerica. Markedly in Matrifocal traditions, esoteric lineages, and metaphysical initiations, the spiritual meaning of ‘SOULSTICE’ represented the fertile womb – where all creation begins.
