Jon Bernthal Says He Has a Red Line With the People Close to Him: “I Can’t Be Down With You If You Put Your Hands on a Woman”

Jon Bernthal has drawn a firm line with the people closest to him, and he isn’t shy about naming what it is.

“I can’t be down with you if you put your hands on a woman,” Bernthal said, describing the standard he holds his friends to.

The friend he was talking about is Shia LaBeouf. Bernthal celebrated LaBeouf’s comeback, then heard the abuse allegations and pulled back.

Two years later, though, he reconsidered. Bernthal decided that walking away wasn’t the job of a real friend.
